Invitation

To be noticed, notice

Open Reference

Putting your work out there is an invitation.

It opens the door to relationships, ideas, and creative energy that wouldn’t exist otherwise. When you share, you create a positive feedback loop—one idea sparks another, and each person becomes a generator for the other. Creativity isn’t a solo act. It’s a conversation.

But here’s the trick: while we crave feedback and validation, waiting to be noticed can turn into a self-judgment loop. Why isn’t anyone paying attention? Maybe I’m not good enough. Maybe my work is… [insert self-doubt here].

With time, that loop quiets. But even seasoned creatives can fall into the trap of waiting. And waiting is the opposite of an invitation.

To be noticed, notice. Recognize others—without expectation.

You might hear a voice ask: Okay, but is this just a trick? Give so you get?

No. You want to be excited to give.

One way I do this? I remind myself—I already know my own ideas. I want to hear what others are working on. Their projects, their struggles, their wins. When I engage with their work, I open new doors for myself too. Instead of waiting for connection, I create it.

Creativity thrives in conversation. Start one.

Put your work out there. Invite others in. And when they show up, serve like a good host—with curiosity, generosity, and a strong cup of coffee.

As my friend Jeffrey Davis says, "Open up, don't size up."
